How to control car skidding – pendulum technique? - image

This technique, known commonly as “pendulum”, serves to launch a controlled oversteering skid. It can be used in the case of cars with front- all four-wheel drives.

Its goal is to make the car skid, i.e. to breach its stability by using excess power (powerslide). It is performed best with poor grip and at higher speeds.

How is this done? Reduce speed to one allowing to enter a road curve earlier than usual. Once appropriate speed is achieved, the steering wheel should be turned abruptly in a direction opposite to the direction of the turn, without braking or accelerating. Then a turn following the road curve should be made. At that moment, the back of the car loses its grip and the car starts skidding.
